Welcome to Donnie's page, here you'll find all the cutting edge things you can do to mod up KeyWiki... I hope.

Say Hi! Drop us a note by clicking here...

I'm currently working on the following files, Cecile Richards, Isaac Asimov

I'm incredibly pedantic when it comes to referencing claims on KeyWiki. All statements must be referenced back to a verifiable, credible source. It is acceptable to cite a blog, so long as opinions and bias are not carried across from that source.

Referencing Protocol

Please include your reference following the period at the end of your sentence. In some cases it is appropriate to include references mid-sentence, if a number of sources are cited in building that sentence. When citing web sources, please use the following format, which will result in a tidy looking reference. Simply including the URL within the <ref> tags is not acceptable. If the article is not dated, please use the date on which you accessed the article.

<ref>[ ''Barack Obama'', Feb. 18, 2010]</ref>

If a reference is to be used more than once on a KeyWiki page, please give the first instance of the reference a name:

<ref>[ ''Barack Obama'', Feb. 18, 2010]</ref>

And then for all future uses of that source, simply use the following format,

Noting Lack of Reference

If you come across an unreferenced statement - and are unable to find the source for the claim yourself, please append the claim with:

This will place a [citation needed] where the reference number would have otherwise been. Hopefully someone else will spot this at some point in the future, and include the correct reference.

Time-Saving Tips

  • Edit a Page: Alt+Shift+E
  • Save a Page: Alt+Shift+S

Bulk Replace Text

This tool saves a lot of time...

  1. Go go Special:ReplaceText
  2. In the top box, enter the incorrect text that needs to be changed
  3. In the bottom box, enter the corrected text.
  4. Be careful not to screw up, as it will be tricky to undo a large number of changes you didn't mean to make...

N.B. Your changes will be placed in a queue, as alterations are carried out in real time.

Formatting Guidelines

This is by far the simplest way of turning a long list into columns. Simply place

<div style="column-count:3;-moz-column-count:3;-webkit-column-count:3">

at the beginning of the list, and at the end,

You can modify the columns by changing the number of columns, or adjusting the overall width the columns take up. See further examples on User:Kiwi's page.

Fixed-Height Columns

This method is for when you need to be sure exactly what is in each column. Here is an example. You may set the width within which you wish to fit your columns - if you don't want to you can just leave out this <div...> and its </div> at the end.

<div style="width:500px;">

<div style="width:50%;float:left;">

list of items for column 1

<div style="width:50%;float:left;">

list of items for column 2

<div style="clear:both;"></div>

You can change things round, for instance do not have a fixed width and have 4 columns by making each column say, 24% to be safe. One other useful thing you can do is nest 2 or more columns within another column, all you do here is put the above code inside another column, where it says list of items for column 1 for instance. This can come in handy.

Create a Redirect

Here's how to automatically forward a page to another page. Why would you want to? You could forward an acronym, i.e. NAM to the actual page, New American Movement.

  1. Create a new page, i.e. NAM
  2. All you put on the page is: #REDIRECT [[New American Movement]]
  3. Save the page, that's it.

Redirects are also good if a person goes under different names, or if there is a common misspelling of their name.

Donnie Darko trailer

To embed a Youtube video in a page, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Youtube page, i.e.
  2. Copy the part of the URL following the = symbol, i.e. N49ISZ4LpkU. Note, sometimes the URL is much longer, in this case, copy the part of the URL between the = symbol and the & symbol. i.e.
  3. Using the template below, paste the video code (N49ISZ4LpkU) into where it says CODE.
  4. If you want a caption, type it in where it says CAPTION.
  5. So, if you were inserting the video you see on the right, the code should look like this:
    <div class="video-small">{{#ev:youtube|N49ISZ4LpkU|250}}Donnie Darko trailer</div>
  6. Press Save :)

Optional: If you want a larger size for the video, change <div class="video-small"> to <div class="video-large">, and change 250 to 400.

Using Tabs

{{#switchtablink:Tab name|Link text|Page name}}

Cannibals Joke

Three men were walking through the jungle when they were captured by cannibals. The cannibals thought they would be fair and give the men each one chance to be let free. They were released into the jungle to pick three of one type of fruit and come back to see the chief. After this the chief would tell them what to do.

The first man got three apples. The chief said, "Okay, you must swallow all three of these apples without gagging or chewing." The man got the first one in his throat, gagged, and died.

The second man came in with berries. The chief gave him the same task. The second man swallowed two with ease, gagged on the third one, and died.

Now these two men were up in heaven. The first man asked the second, "Why did you gag? You had berries! You could have lived!"

The second guy replied, "Yeah, but I almost laughed when I saw the third man coming with pineapples!"

Zoo Joke

One day an out of work actor named Tim is visiting the zoo and attempts to earn some money as a street performer.

Unfortunately, as soon as he starts to draw a crowd, a zoo keeper grabs him and drags him into his office. The zoo keeper explains to Tim that the zoo's most popular attraction, a gorilla has died suddenly and the keeper fears that attendance at the zoo will fall off. He offers the actor a job to dress up as the gorilla until they can get another one. Tim accepts.

So the next morning Tim puts on the gorilla suit and enters the cage before crowd comes. He discovers that its a great job. He can sleep all he wants, play and make fun of people and he draws bigger crowds than he ever did as an actor.

However, eventually the crowds tire of him and he tires of just swinging on tires. He begins to notice that the people are paying more attention to the lion in the cage next to his. Not wanting to lose the attention of his audience, he climbs to the top of his cage, crawls across a partition, and dangles from the top to the lions cage. Of course, this makes the lion furious, but the crowd loves it.

At the end of the day the zoo keeper comes and gives Tim a raise for being such a good attraction. Well, this goes on for some time, Tim keeps taunting the lion, the crowds grow larger, and his salary keeps going up.

Then one terrible day when he is dangling over the furious lion he slips and falls. Tim is terrified. The lion gathers itself and prepares to pounce. Tim is so scared that he begins to run round and round the cage with the lion close behind. Finally, he starts screaming and yelling, ‘Help, Help me!’, but the lion is quick and pounces.

The actor soon finds himself flat on his back looking up at the angry lion and the lion says, ‘Shut up you idiot! Do you want to get us both fired?’
